As part of the Creative Learning Exchange 2018, 5 regular attendees of our Creative Writing classes were given the exciting opportunity to do a week of intensive writing workshops at the Omero writing school in Rome, from 7th-11th May 2018.
The participants were taken through a structured writing course, which allowed us to explore a different style of workshop delivery with our international partners at Omero. The course also enabled the participants to engage with a new multi-disciplinary approach to writing. The participants undertook a guided tour visit of the ‘Galleria Borghese ‘and were introduced to the works Caravaggio and Bernini, after which a selection of artwork was used as inspiration for the development of a short story.
On the final day of the course, participants also received constructive feedback on their written work.
‘Just wanted to say thank you for organising the writing trip. In hindsight I have got a lot from it… I have found Alice and Pablo’s feedback on my short story useful and thought provoking and the same with the chosen texts that Alice read’. Hilda
‘Our first experience of a narrative course in English has been positive and stimulating. The participants carefully followed and participated in the lessons, the texts read were understood with respect to the training objectives, showing how powerful and universal are stories and fiction. Critical points were the intensity of the lessons, concentrated in 4 days, which combined with teaching in a foreign language made the experience tiring, even if rewarding. The stories that came out of the workshop, inspired by the masterpieces of the Galleria Borghese, are lyrical and well conceived, with respect to the dramaturgy and the setting. With an editing work it will be possible to publish them. Based on this experience we look forward to replicating it’. Omero Team
